Job Title: Electrical Technician – Substations
Location: Charleville, Co. Cork
About the Role
Sparktel is currently recruiting an Electrical Technician – Substations for a leading utilities and infrastructure contractor. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified electrician with experience or interest in high-voltage (HV) substation works to join a growing team delivering critical electrical infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of substation equipment and associated electrical systems while ensuring compliance with all safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Install HV and LV electrical systems within substation environments.
- Install and commission switchgear, transformers, and protection equipment.
- Carry out cable installation, glanding, and terminations.
- Perform planned maintenance, fault-finding, and repair activities.
- Conduct inspections, testing, and verification of electrical installations.
- Support outage planning and switching programmes.
- Maintain accurate documentation, site records, and test certificates.
- Work in accordance with all relevant safety procedures and industry regulations.
- Participate in emergency response and call-out activities when required.
Requirements
- Qualified Electrician with relevant trade certification.
- Valid Safe Pass.
- QA/QC certification advantageous.
- Experience working on HV substations is desirable.
- Full clean driving licence.
- Strong practical electrical installation and maintenance skills.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
- Strong commitment to health, safety, and quality standards.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
