About the Role
Sparktel are currently recruiting for an experienced Grid Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team delivering electrical grid connection solutions for renewable energy and power generation projects across Ireland. This role will focus on the design, analysis and development of grid connection solutions for projects including wind, solar and battery energy storage. You will be involved in assessing network requirements, developing technical solutions and ensuring projects meet the relevant Irish grid codes, engineering standards and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver electrical grid connection designs for renewable energy and power generation projects.
- Design network solutions for wind, solar, battery storage and other renewable energy developments.
- Produce electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, equipment layouts and other technical design documentation.
- Carry out power system studies including load flow, fault level/short-circuit and protection coordination analysis.
- Use industry-standard power system modelling and analysis software to assess network performance and connection requirements.
- Interpret network requirements and translate them into practical, technically robust design solutions.
- Identify technical risks associated with grid connections and develop appropriate mitigation measures.
- Ensure all engineering designs comply with applicable grid codes, legislation, technical standards and health and safety requirements.
- 4+ years' relevant experience in grid design, power systems, transmission/ distribution engineering or renewable energy.
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of electrical power systems and grid connection principles.
- Experience with power system analysis and modelling software such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory or ETAP.
- Strong understanding of HV/MV substations and electrical protection systems.
- Experience working on renewable energy integration, grid connections or power generation projects.
- Experience with large-scale renewable energy developments.
- Knowledge of battery energy storage systems (BESS) and their integration into electricity networks.
- Familiarity with SCADA, protection, control and grid automation systems.
- Experience supporting projects through planning, permitting and construction.
- Previous experience managing technical elements of grid connection projects.
