Overview
Sparktel Recruitment are currently looking for an experienced Civil & Structural Design Team Lead to join a growing multidisciplinary engineering team.
This is a senior opportunity for an experienced Civil or Structural Engineer with a strong background in renewable energy, utilities or large-scale infrastructure projects, who is looking to take responsibility for both project delivery and the management of a design team. The role is primarily office based, with occasional travel to project sites and client meetings.
The successful candidate will take the lead on the delivery of civil and structural design projects across the renewable energy and utilities sector, managing projects from the early tender and feasibility stages through design, construction support and completion.
Responsibilities
- Leading the delivery of renewable energy and infrastructure design projects.
- Managing civil and structural design teams and coordinating workloads.
- Overseeing the design of grid and substation infrastructure from 20kV to 400kV, together with associated civil and structural works.
- Managing projects through feasibility, design, planning, tendering and construction support stages.
- Coordinating with electrical engineering teams to ensure civil, structural and electrical designs are properly integrated.
- Managing project programmes, budgets, costs and financial reporting.
- Supporting and preparing tender submissions.
- Reviewing design drawings and ensuring designs are ready for formal issue.
- Managing RFIs throughout the design process.
- Providing design support and supervision during construction.
- Managing relationships with clients and external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Liaising with developers, local authorities, utility companies, landowners and other project stakeholders.
- Working closely with internal commercial, quality, design and HSQE teams.
- Supporting compliance with relevant ISO and company procedures.
- Attending site and design meetings when required.
- 10+ years' relevant Civil Structural Design experience.
- A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Proven experience managing civil/structural design teams.
- Experience delivering large infrastructure, utility or renewable energy projects.
- Experience with grid and/or substation-related infrastructure would be highly advantageous.
- Strong project management and commercial awareness.
- Experience managing projects from tender/pre-construction through to completion.
- Experience managing client relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
- Strong knowledge of engineering design processes and project delivery.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit and/or Tekla.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Project, Excel, Word and Teams.
- PSDP experience would be advantageous.
- Chartered Engineer status would be preferred.
- A full driving licence.
