Key duties & responsibilities;
- Report to the Contracts Manager, overseeing site managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure the safe and timely execution of works, meeting budget, programme, and quality expectations.
- Take full responsibility for on-site operations and ensure compliance with project standards and procedures.
- Enforce best practices in health, safety, and environmental (HS&E) management across the project.
- Ensure subcontractors deliver work in line with approved method statements and risk assessments.
- Lead construction activities involving reinforced concrete structures and wastewater infrastructure, including large-diameter pipelines — experience in both areas is essential.
- Resolve any unexpected technical issues that may arise from design documents or site conditions.
- Keep the wider project team informed on engineering and technical developments throughout the project lifecycle.
- Act as the primary technical advisor for subcontractors, craftspeople, and operatives on-site.
- Ensure all works and materials used comply with technical specifications.
- Support the selection and procurement of materials and plant.
- Interpret and monitor design documentation provided by clients, architects, or consultants.
- Coordinate with consultants, subcontractors, planners, quantity surveyors, and site personnel on a day-to-day basis.
- Promote customer focus, ensuring high levels of quality and stakeholder satisfaction.
- Establish and uphold the highest standards of construction quality, safety, and environmental responsibility.
Candidate Profile – Skills & Expertise
- Minimum Level 7/8 qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Significant experience managing civil engineering projects, ideally within the water and wastewater sector.
- Strong background in reinforced concrete structures and large-diameter pipework installation.
- Proficient in project management tools such as MS Project.
- Holder of a valid Safe Pass, SMSTS, or MSIC certification.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
- Strong leadership capabilities with a proactive and self-motivated attitude.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proven time management and organisational abilities.
